 August
12, 2007: Very few things could match a Sunday afternoon
race in Sandy Ground, with near perfect weather. Today, ten
boats set sail with
glassy, turquoise water glistening in the afternoon sun.
Shortly before 3:00pm Miss Anguilla, Satellite II,
Real
Deal, Eagle, De tree,
NWO, Light & Peace, UFO, Blue Bird and
Sonic lined up to battle in the
Scotia Bank sponsored
Champion of Champions race. In addition to bragging rights
the winner walks away with $US 10,000.
Strongly contributing to the sustenance
of Anguilla's
greatest sport, HBR radio once again teamed up with Mr Cool
(a.k.a Mr Boat Race) - Harris Richardson to bring the bow by bow
commentary from sea as the boats made their way from Sandy
Ground to Rendezvous and back.
It was after 6:00pm when the UFO, reading the winds
perfectly was seen headed first into the
harbour. Captained
by "Mumba" the Island Harbour boat took an unassailable lead
and, trailed only by speed boats, cruised into winning
position.

This race marked the end of another
fabulous Boat Race season. In Anguilla, this truly is a
masterful sport.
