CCB Talented Teen Contestants Motivational Session and Fun Day at The Beach

On Saturday July 14th, the nine CCB Talented Teen contestants participated in a motivational session facilitated by Tr. Art Egel.
Motivational session with Teacher Art

To begin the session, the contestants were asked to introduce themselves to the group as they would on the actual night of the show. Each individual contestant was then asked to answer an impromptu question prepared by the other contestants in the group. The group was then given the opportunity to constructively criticize the answers produced by the contestant clearly stating the positive and negative aspects of the responses and self-presentation.

Through their evaluation of the contestant’s answer the group was able to learn the best approaches for answering questions. They were also able to reflect upon their own answers and determine what areas would need to be improved in order to make the best possible presentation on the night of the event. Answering the practice questions in the presence of their peers would also aid in building their self-confidence as it would give them a feel for addressing an audience.

Teacher Art’s down-to-earth approach created a relaxed atmosphere in which the contestants were able to freely express their general feelings and concerns. The contestants were not limited to any one topic and as result this generated a wide and varied discussion. Tr. Art educated the contestants on the best ways to handling issues that commonly arise and he encouraged them to strive for excellence in whatever endeavours they may undertake.

The motivational session was immediately followed by a relaxing Fun Day at the beach. It was one of the activities which allowed the contestants to have fun among each other and build upon the friendships which are being cultivated among the group.

Though a fun day, the contestants were required to engage in teamwork. Teams of three were put together randomly and contestants were given 10 minutes, working as teams to come up with an art piece using anything they could find within the area restriction. The end result was rather fascinating as the contestants were very creative and inspired by nature.

Teams were asked to regroup at the end of the activity and the educational aspect was discussed. The contestants were then asked a series of questions as it related to their art piece. Firstly, whether the team had elected a leader and the importance of having a leader. Secondly, what inspired their art piece. Thirdly, why they had chosen the various materials and finally, what were the pros and cons of working together as a team.

After a few hours of fun in the sun, the contestants enjoyed an outdoor BBQ lunch at B & Ds in Long Bay.
