July 17, 2007: As part of the activities, the nine contestants took part in an intense five-day public speaking workshop, which was hosted by Mr. Keith Stone Greaves.  Mr. Greaves, journalist and broadcaster from the island of Montserrat, spent almost 20 years with the AM broadcast giant RADIO ANTILLES and later moved to the BBC in London. He served as Producer of Caribbean News and other programmes as well as the BBC correspondent from Montserrat for many years. Mr. Greaves also served as a BBC Caribbean trainer for journalists in the OECS.  He worked for PJD1 FM radio station on St. Maarten and Radio Montserrat, as Trainer, and acting News Editor respectively. He is currently employed by the Government of Anguilla as a Broadcast Media Consultant at Radio Anguilla.
 

The contestants were taught a variety of techniques which would result in successful public speaking. This included speaking from the diaphragm, maintenance of good posture and eye-contact with the person you are addressing, restraining from the over-use of hand movement and gestures, use of articulation and proper pronunciation of words and correct use of the microphone.

Part of the learning activity included sessions at the location, having contestants familiarize themselves with the stage and instruction on using it effectively while speaking.  It allowed them the opportunity to visualize the audience that will be sitting before them on Tuesday, August 7^th and how they will properly address them.

Benefits of the session were that the contestants were evidently more self-confident upon completion. They had improved their public speaking skills and overall felt a readiness for the night of the show.
