HOLDS SPECIAL MEETING AT THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PRIOR TO
CONSTITUTIONAL DISCUSSIONS BETWEEN ANGUILLA AND THE UK |
July 11, 2007: According to a press release
from the Chief Minister's office, Mr Fleming has decided to
hold a special meeting at the House of Assembly on July 17th
2007 at 6pm, to communicate the proposed constitutional
changes to the nation. The Chief Minister has said that he
deems it necessary to remind the general public what the
recommendations are as constitutional changes involves the
tailoring of the the document upon which our democracy,
special needs, legitimate interests, fundamental rights and
freedoms are based.
Chief Minister Fleming went on further to say that although
there have been a series of public meetings in the lead up
to this first round of talks to enable people to voice their
views on the changes proposed, he hopes that the people will
continue to be vigilant and demonstrate what participatory
democracy is all about. There will be more than one round of
discussions between the Anguilla and the UK before
final agreement is reached on a modern constitution that is
acceptable. |
