National
Youth Council President Receiving Training in Governance |
July 11, 2007:
Ms. Sherri-Ann Roberts, President of the Anguilla
National Youth Council is currently in St. Augustine
Trinidad receiving training in governance. The training
programme which is been undertaken by the United Nations
Development Programme is designed to mobilize Caribbean
Youth and build on their existing skills. It involves 35
young men and women, aged 18-37 who will be engaged in a
year-long training exercise that will enable them to enhance
their sills and participate and influence Caribbean
governance processes. The project promotes:
- Dialogue in governance issues with a focus on
participatory democracy
- The deepening of democracy by strengthening
accountability in development processes;
- Youth as change agents in their communities and
countries with leadership development;
- Proactive youth participation in global, regional
and national development agenda such as human
development, MDGs;
- Civic education by creating a regional governance
youth network as a tool for knowledge sharing and
learning;

The training
component of the project supports four training modules,
with two (2) implemented through regional workshops
addressing topics which will include:
- Understanding Caribbean governance challenges;
- Transformative leadership;
- Advocacy and participation in policy development;
- Gender and governance;
Roberts is participating in the programme on
recommendation by the Ministry of Social Development,
Department of Youth and Culture. |
