Senior Citizens Take Front Seats for This Year’s Grand Parade of Troupes as Byron Lee and the Dragonaires Team Up With Digicel and Capital Dreams

The Valley, Anguilla; 02 July, 2007 – As Anguillans prepare for the Anguilla Summer Festival 2007: Strictly Culture Driven, senior citizens will take center stage for the Grand Parade of Troupes.  Digicel and the Capital Dreams Social Club have come together to ensure that the island’s older and wiser citizens are able to enjoy the celebrations in fine style.

On July 27 - the fourth Friday of this month - world renowned, sensational and legendary music ambassadors Byron Lee and the Dragonaires will perform at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Center at 9 pm.  Organizers of this event anticipate a sold-out crowd, and intend to donate a percentage of the proceeds towards a special senior citizens’ tent scheduled to be in place for Friday August 10.

Ms. Brooks, Digicel Manager, solidifies Digicel's partnership with Capital Dreams Social Club; Mercia Smith and Roy Carty

With the strategic placement of this tent along the main carnival route, senior citizens will be able to enjoy the parade of troupes, the pageantry and the colours of Anguilla’s Summer Festival from an exceptionally comfortable vantage point.

Since 2005, Digicel has been a corporate sponsor of the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens Home.  Special invitations have been issued to members of this home to take their seats among the many expected to come from around the island.

According to Digicel Country Manager Stephenie Brooks: “Digicel is proud to partner with the Capital Dreams Social Club and supports its efforts to improve relationships among the youth in Anguilla. It is commendable that this social club - with a membership of mostly ‘30 somethings’ and under - is taking the time to ensure that the senior citizens in our community have an opportunity to enjoy themselves during our annual Summer Festival.”

Senior member of the Capital Dreams Social Club Roy Carty, expressed the Club’s gratitude to Digicel for being the platinum sponsor of this venture.  He adds: “Like Digicel, we are proud to be able to afford our senior citizens the opportunity to come out and enjoy the Grand Parade of Troupes. Thanks again, Digicel.”

Tickets for the much anticipated show can be obtained from club members at a cost of $25 USD. This is the first time that a social club or corporate citizen has taken such measures to ensure that the island’s senior can share in the appreciation of the island’s annual cultural expression.
