Encouraged to Put Their Talent on the Regional Stage;
Digicel Rising Stars Gets Set to Launch for Second Season |
The Valley, Anguilla, July 2, 2007
- Who will be the next Digicel Rising Star?
Can St. Vincent and the Grenadines do the hat-trick and win
again? These are the two big questions being asked as
Digicel Rising Star gets set to kick off for the second
season in Anguilla.
On Thursday, July 5th Digicel Rising Stars will officially
kick off at Grillers for a night of performances and fun
with Karaoke and performances by last year’s finalist.
The competition which started in 2005 with four countries
participating got off to a promising start with St. Vincent
and the Grenadines producing the first winner. Last year
with the rapid expansion of the Digicel Brand across the
region, the show embraced the eight islands of the Digicel
family in the Eastern Caribbean – Anguilla, Antigua and
Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis,
St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Once again
last year, the winner by popular vote was Kyron Baptiste
from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. |

This year keener
competition is anticipated as it is hoped that a large
number of Anguillans will turn out for the auditions.
Participants will be aiming to grab the coveted title of
Digicel Rising Star 2007, prize money totaling US $10,000, a
top of the line Sony Ericsson handset plus other great
prizes.
Anyone can audition and possibly become the next Digicel
Rising Star says Anguilla’s Country Manager Stephenie
Brooks. She adds “the more talented and ambitious
individuals who turn out to audition, the better the chances
of having one of our own among the top two.”
The competition is an audience centered platform where
anyone with a phone can vote and play a part in determining
the outcome. For the first time Cable and Wireless customers
will be able to add their voices to the selection of the
next rising star.
This year, the show will once again be hosted by Barbadian
TV presenter Ms. Belle Holder, with one small change to last
year’s panel of judges to include again, Carlton Pickering,
Lennox Vanterpool and Will Smith an assistant professor of
music at American University in Washington DC where he
teaches courses in jazz history, rock history, music
appreciation and conducts the American University Jazz
Ensemble.
The auditions are will be held on Sunday 15th July at the
Teacher’s Resource Center from 10am to 7pm.
Auditions from all islands, and subsequent shows will be
broadcast on KCN (Kreative Communications Network) and will
be simulcast across all eight islands.
All talented hopefuls are expected to be present for this
amazing opportunity at stardom.
