Press Release - GOA June 27, 2007: THE
VALLEY, Anguilla, A number of Indian migrant workers who
have been on strike for the past two days for better working
conditions have agreed to return to the project site
following a full day of discussions between government
officials, representatives of the workers, their employer
Carillion Construction, legal and other community
stakeholders.
The negotiations resulted in among other things an interim
arrangement to facilitate a timetable for the resolution of
their grievances.
The government of Anguilla has assured the workers that it
is in full support of a fair and equitable settlement of
their grievances in a timely manner.
The dispute had culminated into a peaceful demonstration in
the Valley where the workers, with the support of local
sympathizers, brought attention to their concerns with
salary and working conditions. |
