CM Fleming giving his
Anguilla Day Remarks
|
May 31, 2007: In the
searing heat of Anguilla's morning sun,
uniformed organizations and armed forces, adopted expected protocol and
marched in celebration of Anguilla's 40th Anniversary of the
revolution that rid the island of the stifling union with
St. Christopher (St. Kitts) and Nevis. Chaired by permanent
secretary in the Chief Minister's office, Mr Foster Rogers,
the ceremony progressed with only minor hiccups along the
way. Dignitaries from neighboring islands such as Saba,
Statia, St. Maarten/St. Martin, Nevis and the British Virgin
Islands were in attendance.
Also
visiting Anguilla, among the uniformed organizations,
was an attractive police band who had traveled from St.
Lucia.
With
the poise of the leader of a prosperous island, Chief
Minister, The Honuorable Osbourne Fleming accompanied
by Commissioner of police, Keithley Benjamin,
inspected the uniformed groups. Those represented included
the Police Force, Prison Officers, Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl
Guides, Brownies, Rangers and Path Finders. Throughout his rounds he
also took time to interact with several of the participants.
Mr Fleming later gave an
energetic Anguilla Day address in which he reminisced on the
tremendous economic progress Anguilla had made over the past
40 years and made special note of the hoteliers who had
contributed to Anguilla's development to-date. |
