WINAIR flights to Anguilla to Continue - Government extends thanks

Honourable Victor F. Banks, Minister of Finance and Tourism meeting with WINAIR management

The Valley, Anguilla, Monday, May 21st, 2007  ---The Government of Anguilla would like to thank WINAIR for reaching agreement on arrangements to continue service into Anguilla beyond the published termination date of May 15th, 2007.  This “air bridge” service from the St. Maarten hub at Princess Juliana Airport is vital to the Anguilla’s tourism industry as well as Anguillian residents traveling on to other destinations particularly in the Caribbean.

A delegation of officials from the Government of Anguilla led by the Honourable Victor F. Banks, Minister of Finance and Tourism had traveled to St. Maarten to meet with the WINAIR management team comprising Edwin Hodge, Managing Director; Claudio Buncamper, Director of Marketing Sales and Customer Service; and Denico Richardson, Senior Analyst on May 5th, 2007 to discuss the future of the WINAIR service to Anguilla. The meeting was extremely cordial and the existence of goodwill on both sides allowed for positive action towards finding a mutually beneficial solution to this matter.

We are pleased to announce that WINAIR will now continue its service into Anguilla operated by Anguilla Air Services Ltd (AAS). The relationship between WINAIR and AAS began some months ago and has proved to be convenient and reliable. The Managing Director of AAS, Mr. Carl Thomas has agreed with the support of the Government of Anguilla to ensure that the needs of customers who have been faithfully served by WINAIR over its forty five years of operation are adequately met.

The challenges facing WINAIR in its efforts to maintain the Anguilla “air bridge” were fully recognized and appreciated by the Anguillian team and they have expressed tremendous gratitude to Mr. Claudio Buncamper, for his efforts as Director of Marketing (WINAIR) to find a way forward despite considerable financial “roadblocks”.

The reinstatement of these flights will allow passengers traveling to and from Anguilla to book flights internationally and provide for the development of critical interline links with cities in North America, Europe and the Caribbean. Travel Agents are hereby notified that they can now rebook flights which were previously cancelled and continue regular bookings to Anguilla.
