Lower fees coming for Anguillians studying in the UK

Lord Triesman and Anguilla's Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming

The Valley, Anguilla, Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming announced that he has received communication from Lord Triesman Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Overseas Territories, with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office,  in relation to a discussion held in November 2006 on the specific issue of concession in fees for Anguillians pursuing Higher Education in the United Kingdom.

As promised by Lord Triesman then,  the issue has been raised with the Ministers responsible for Education in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and the received  communication  states that “all of the devolved administrations have confirmed they are contented in principle to extend the home fees status concession to British Overseas Territories students studying in their countries.”

This new status would parallel the fees now paid by Anguillians studying in the United Kingdon (UK) to those paid by students from the UK, making Higher Education more affordable for Anguillians.  The administrations are now in the process of taking the necessary steps to ensure implementation for the 2007/2008 academic year.  Mr. Fleming will keep the public updated on this matter and the final effect of this policy change.
