Wednesday, May
09, 2007 Anguilla – Digicel, the fastest growing mobile
telecommunications operator in the Caribbean and the Summer
Festival Committee announced their partnership for the
marketing and advertising of the “Strictly Culture
Driven” Summer Festival 2007. This unprecedented
agreement is the first of its kind as the Committee partners
with Digicel to promote Carnival 2007.
The press conference was held yesterday at the Anguilla
Tourist Board offices in the Valley. In attendance were John
Benjamin, Chairman of the Summer Festival Committee, Gecheal
Richardson-Gumbs, Financial Controller, Fitzroy Tomlinson,
Summer Festival Coordinator, and Stephenie Brooks, Country
Manager Digicel Anguilla.
The sponsorship will support marketing and advertising of
Summer Festival 2007 in the areas of print to include
billboards, posters, flyers, banners,
tickets, and newspaper, radio, TV,
internet and special SMS promotions.
“We are very pleased to have this opportunity to partner
with and support the Summer Festival Committee in their
marketing and advertising efforts for Summer Festival 2007.
As in every Caribbean island, Carnival has its roots deep
within the culture and is much anticipated and looked
forward to every year. Digicel appreciates the chance to
contribute to this annual cultural event and looks forward
to working along side the Committee,” commented Stephenie
Brooks, Country Manager for Digicel Anguilla.
Committee members praised Digicel for taking the initiative
to support Carnival in this way and expressed their
gratitude. “We are thankful to Digicel for partnering with
us and appreciate their support,” said Gecheal Richardson-Gumbs,
Financial Controller. Mrs. Richardson–Gumbs also explained “
This initiative will result in significant saving to the
Summer Festival committee as promotions in the past years

“We are pleased
that Digicel has stepped forward to support Summer Carnival
2007.” Their support in the areas of marketing and
advertising are greatly appreciated, exclaimed Fitzroy
Tomlinson, Summer Festival Coordinator.
Mr. Benjamin and Mr. Tomlinson also shared with the Press
exciting updates on the Road March. One of the highlights
was the significant increase in the prize money for the
winner. Digicel raised the ante by sponsoring $5,000 ECD to
the winner instead of the customary $1,000 ECD. Mr. Benjamin
and Mr. Tomlinson further went on to share details on the
improved process for choosing the winner which will now
include text voting from the public to choose their favorite
song which will comprise 80% of the voting and standard
judging based on certain criteria to comprise the remaining
20%. While this new process differs from the past it is
anticipated that public participation will be great and help
fuel the excitement. |
