April
28, 2007: In a symbolic yet meaningful journey the Gli Gli, a
spectacular traditional Carib crafted Canoe first launched in 1997, will once
again set sail from Dominica.
Unlike their inaugural journey south to Guyana, the 35-foot traditional dugout
sailing canoe with a 14 member Kalinga Carib crew will be headed out north from
Dominica into the Leeward Islands. The group will sail from Antigua to
the Virgin Islands via Nevis , St. Kitts St. Barths, St,
Maarten, Anguilla and then on to Tortola across the Anegada passage. It
will be the first time that a Carib Canoe has sailed in these waters since
Europeans took firm control of the islands and maliciously stained their
reputation with the myth of cannibalism. |
