Documentary & Anguilla Bird Guide to be launched around
Anguilla Day |
April 25, 2007: The Anguilla National Trust has been
reinvigorating the ways in which it engages in public
education and awareness of the issues facing and affecting
our island. One of the creative strategies that the
Organisation has employed is the filming of a documentary
entitled “Anguilla at a Cross Roads: Heritage, Tourism &
the Anguilla National Trust”. This documentary was
produced by Dr. William “Bill” Found of York University in
Toronto, Canada. It is designed to highlight some of the
issues facing Anguilla as we continue to develop and as the
role of tourism continues to grow even greater. The
documentary also features a bit of Anguilla’s past and
focuses on the role of the Trust in facilitating sustainable
national development. The film is approximately 40 minutes
and can be purchased at the ANT office.
Additionally,
the Trust has produced a Bird-Watching Guide for Anguilla
to complement recent publications on reptiles and plants.
The guide is written by Dr. Steve H. Holliday (RSPB Regional
Director), Mr. Karim V.D. Hodge (Director of Environment),
and Mr. Damien E. Hughes (ANT Executive Director). The main
aim of the guide is to promote the island’s birdlife and a
better understanding of the habitats they depend upon. It is
a full colour guide with photographs featuring birds and
bird-watching sites on Anguilla including its Important Bird
Areas. A section on bird identification and information on
the Anguilla National Trust are also included. The book is
aimed at visiting birdwatchers, Anguillians and students and
teachers at the islands institutions of learning. The guide
is available from the ANT offices at US$20.00.
In celebration of these two milestones and in commemoration
of the 40th anniversary of the Anguilla Revolution, the ANT
will be launching these two pieces of educational material
on Friday 25th May, 2007 at the historic Wall Blake House.
The launch will feature a screening of the documentary,
speeches by the authors, a book signing session followed by
reception. All are invited to attend.
