Once again
Shara Proctor was the cream of the long jump crop as
she leaped to a distance of 6:17m, and consequently
capturing gold medal. She was also on target to win
the triple jump as well but severe back injury
preempted her participation in that event. However
the other athletes cherished the learning experience
and are eager to commence training to improve in
their respective disciplines. Head coach, Mr.
Rollins Richardson and jumps coach Mrs. Wilma
Proctor articulated there are some very young and
promising athletes who, if they were to training can
improve their performances.
While in
the Turks and Cacois Islands the head delegates of
the Anguillian contingent met with an official from
Mondo (Supplier of synthetic track material) to
discuss plans for a track facility in Anguilla. The
government of Anguilla has already secured an area
of land to house this track.
The next
Carifta games will held in ST.Kitts during the
Easter weekend of 2008. A training squad of about
25 athletes has been identified to begin
preparations.
Mr. Rollins
Richardson wishes to express the sincere gratitude
of the Anguilla amateur athletics association to all
sponsors and persons who assisted in seeing this
venture to fruition.
