Compulsory
Public Acquisition of Cap Juluca - Anguilla Government
considers action. |
 March,
16, 2007: According to a press release by the Government
of Anguilla, prominent regional attorney Mr. Anthony
Astaphan of Dominica held talks with government officials
last week in relation to the compulsory
acquisition of
Cap Juluca Resort.
Subsequent to the meeting, Attorney Astaphan reportedly
submitted his opinion which is now in the process of
consideration by the government. This bold initiative by the
government is being reported as a follow up to a
resolution passed by the House of Assembly last year that
mandated the government explore all possible steps including
public acquisition in order to bring a final resolution of
what is described as "the
Cap Juluca impasse".
In direct relation to the sale of Cap Juluca, Mr. Dion
Friedland, "owner of Cap Juluca" issued a widely distributed
press release this week, which stated "I
am in the process of selling Cap Juluca to the Gencom/Goldman
Partnership that has developed and owns a number of the
world’s finest resorts. I have seen firsthand how their
ownership and management of such resorts can benefit and
improve a property such as Cap Juluca. They are also in a
position to further develop and create outstanding job
opportunities for the many wonderful Cap Juluca employees
and many other Anguillans who will be employed given the
planned expanded size of Cap Juluca. The sale will shortly
be consummated, at which time Cap Juluca will receive the
planned renovations and enhancements."
In addition, the Anguilla National Tourism Investment
Limited (ANTIL) has also announced its strong
desire to purchase this property and most recently have
organized a
town hall meeting to occur
at the Emmanuel Methodist Church Hall at West End on Tuesday
20th March, 2007 commencing at 7:30 pm. |
