Government Pleased With First Town Hall Meeting
February 15, 2007: The Government is expressing
satisfaction with the productivity of the Town Hall Meeting held at West
End's Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday, February 14, 2007.
More than 100 persons attended the meeting which lasted over 3h and was
aired live over radio. Topics covered included Covecastles -
encrouchment - access, Altamer - access, Viceroy access - sea coast
access – guard house - fencing searocks, road to homes adjacent to
Viceroy, Cap Juluca’s ownership resolution, Cap Juluca access, Long Bay
beach access – road to beach - proposed step Olivers, road to the cove
east of Pelican, Wharf in the Cove, Cove road and land conflict with
Alan Gumbs, removal of rocks on the southern beach in cove, covering of
trucks hauling dirt, traffic trucking to club house – Bernard Fleming
affected, labour issues and importation of workers at Viceroy, labour
issues and importation of workers at golf course, playing field for the
community, school building programme, school bus transportation, police
station in west end, polytechnic clinic and asphalting of road through
long bay
"Interested persons with views, concerns and questions who sought
information or clarification on matters were present at this meeting.
The Meeting was according to all reports met its objective and purpose
of giving the public an opportunity to dialogue with Ministers of
Government. The productivity of the meeting materialized to the extent
it did largely because the discussions took place in an atmosphere of
mutual respect that was conducive to promoting goodwill and
