Calysonians Seeking to Create a Representative Body
February
10, 2007:
Calypsonians in Anguilla are seeking to create an organization to
represent their interests. The organization will be responsible for
collective bargaining and representation and the facilitation of the
professional development of Calypsonians among other things.
The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday 22nd February, 2007 at the
Teachers Resource Centre. All Calypsonians are invited to attend this
meeting. Matters on the agenda include, finalization of details
concerning the creation of the organization, election of officials to
manage the affairs of the organization and the discussion of pressing
matters affecting Calypsonians.A small group of Calypsonians are currently working with the Department
of Youth and Culture at the forefront of this initiative. They include
Mr. Steve ‘Hotshot” Hodge, Ms. Rebecca “Queen B.” Webster (featured

“Springer” Lloyd, Mr. Roy “Drak” Bryson and Mr. Jason “Gossip Lloyd.
Work has been underway for several weeks to develop the concept that is
to be discussed with the general body of Calypsonians.
Mr. Steve Hodge a member of this core group of Calypsonians pointed out
that, Calypsonians need to be represented collectively to ensure that
their interests are taken into consideration when decisions concerning
the development and management of the art form are made. He went on to
point out that for several years Calypsonians and supporters have
lamented the absence of an organization to represent their interests;
with this new initiative, it is hoped that all concerned would grasp the
opportunity to realize this desire.
