ANGUILLIAN WINS TWO MATCHES IN MAJOR U.S. BILLIARDS TOURNAMENT  During January 5-13, 2007, Amateur and Professional Pool Players gathered in Louisville, Kentucky for the 6th Annual Derby City Classic. The event is one of the largest and richest pool (billiard) events in the U.S. As part of this event, Anguillian Eric Hughes of Washington, D.C. participated in the 2nd United States Billiards Association 3-cushion Regional Qualifier Tournament. He won two of his four matches. Apart from participating and winning, Mr. Hughes is also very active in elevating the game of pool in Anguilla; and he continues to promote and market Anguilla as a world-class destination wherever he goes. For example, during the tournaments he continues to network with pool table suppliers, billiard companies, instructors, and experts with Anguilla in mind. His goals are to diversify sports activities in Anguilla by increasing the interest in the game of pool (a healthy recreational activity for all ages), secure top notch equipment, get expert instructors to conduct clinics, hold island-wide tournaments and eventually host world-class tournaments. Hughes says, “I am building on previous efforts when in July 2006, I founded the Anguilla Pocket Billiards Association and enrolled several enthusiastic members.”
