The Great Egret
is distinguished from the snowy egret by its  yellow bill, black feet, and larger size.

Its brilliantly white plumes were once an important part of the feather trade and threatened this species in North America.

Their main foods are fish, but their diet also includes snakes, crabs, frogs and insects

THE GREAT EGRET
(Casmerodius albus)
This beautiful bird took up conspicuous residence
at Pond Site East End  during May and June 2005.
It was one of two Great Egrets seen during my
pond visits.
